Day 1 – Slovenian Municipalities (24/24/212) – Dr Jam Travels

Moravske Toplice

The night before I arrived in Moravske Toplice, where I took a room at the Imperium 3* hotel for 2 nights, €94 including tax. The room was average but had no air conditioning, only a fan, which was quite a problem. I got up at 6am, had breakfast there. At 6:33 I started visiting the first municipality. The morning walk around the spa town was nothing special. That day I visited 24 municipalities.

I was in this municipality few years ago in the village of Bogojina, where I saw Plečnik’s church and the rotunda in the village Selo.

Hodoš

Driving to Hodoš on empty roads. I walk from the main road to the Evangelical church. A few people I meet spoke Hungarian.

I had been to Hodoš before by train on my way to Budapest

Šalovci

5 minutes drive to the municipality of Šalovci, walk to the town hall. At the exit Ina gas station, football field and Šalovci sign

Gornji Petrovci

About the same drive to the municipality of Gornji Petrovci, I park at the health center. Short walk, pharmacy, police, hardware store, Mercator

I spent the night here in the settlement of Šulinci a while ago, and visited the settlement of Stanjevci.

Grad

15 minutes to the municipality of Grad. The municipality is known for the largest castle complex in Slovenia. There I stop in the park and walk around the castle, which is still closed in the morning. There is also an amusement park called Vulkanija

I have been there before, when I visited the interior of the castle.

Kuzma

Another 10 minutes drive to the municipality of Kuzma. Walk from the shop to the roundabout, the municipality sign and the church, end in the memorial park.

Rogašovci

The next 10 minutes of driving brings me to the municipality of Rogašovci. A walk from the bakery past the chapel to Mercator shop. I make another detour and drive to a natural mineral water spring (Slatinski vrelec Nuskova). I fill up a bottle of water, it smells of sulfur but tastes good.

Cankova

10 minutes drive to the municipality of Cankova. Walked from the church, elementary school, kindergarten, university, park with fountain, past the fire station and Mercator to Petrol

Puconci

Next 15 minutes to the municipality of Puconci. Walked there from the post office and health center to the evangelical church

Tišina

I reached the municipality of Tišina after an additional 15 minutes. Walked from the chapel past the church to the parking lot in Tropovci

Murska Sobota

In less than 10 minutes I am in the municipality of Murska Sobota, the center of the Prekmurje region. From the Cathedral of St. Nicholas, across the Slovenska cesta, past the Evangelical Church to the Soboški Castle. On the way back I stopped at the Zvezda Hotel for lunch, bržola and cedevita with a tip (21€).

Otherwise, I have been to Murska Sobota several times.

Beltinci

It’s a good 10-minute drive to the municipality of Beltinci, past the Geza bar, the church, to the castle and Mercator.

Odranci

Another 5 minutes drive to the smallest Slovenian municipality in terms of area, Odranci. Walk from the church past the elementary school to the municipality

Črenšovci

Less than 5 minutes drive to the municipality of Črenšovci. Walked from the church past Mercator to the municipality.

Turnišče

10 minute drive to the municipality of Turnišče. Walked from the fire station past the church and Mercator to the pharmacy

Dobrovnik

7 minutes to Dobrovnik. Walk from the church and Mercator towards the municipality, the fire station and Petrol. They were preparing a tent for the party in the evening.

Kobilje

A good 5 minute drive to the municipality of Kobilje. There, a walk from the church to the fire station

Lendava

20 minutes drive to Lendava. Walk from the church past the hall where I go for juice and ice cream (5€) and end at the castle

I have been to Lendava before, also visited the Vinarium observation tower

Velika Polana

Another 20 minutes to the municipality of Velika Polana. Walk from the fire station past the church, which is being renovated, to the event center

Razkrižje

15 minutes drive to the municipality of Razkrižje. I didn’t stop for long in the largest settlement of Šafarsko (just church) but I visited the prehistoric settlement of Gradišče

Središče ob Dravi

20 minutes drive to the municipality of Središče ob Dravi.

Ormož

A good 10-minute drive to the municipality of Ormož. Walked from the station to the castle where the band practiced for the evening and continued along Ptujska and Lešniška streets.

Sveti Tomaž

15 minutes drive to the municipality of Sveti Tomaž. I walked from the municipality to the church.

Ljutomer

It’s another 20 minutes drive to Ljutomer. I walked to the Main Square where the concert was. I drank a Coca Cola

I was in Ljutomer for 3 days last year at the film festival. I drive to Moravske Toplice to sleep, there was also a concert, Klape.
