She Was Showering Alone in Her Cruise Cabin. Then She Heard Someone Moving Around Outside the Bathroom – What Happened Next Made Her Even Angrier

Before getting into today’s story, I want to emphasize something. I am a woman and I know perfectly well what it is like to travel solo and how important feeling safe is. It is always important, whether I am traveling with my family or not.

There are a few worst-case scenarios – situations in which I would feel completely unsafe – and one of them is a situation similar to the one below.

I am sharing what happened, the comments, and two follow-up videos because I think there are some lessons here – and some question marks, several of them raised by people who watched the video.

And I want to point out something else: the anxiety, its implications, and the amplifying effect of the reaction she received afterward.

But let me tell you first what happened.

She Was Showering Alone in Her Cruise Cabin. Then She Heard Someone Moving Around Outside the Bathroom – What Happened Next Made Her Even Angrier

She was traveling alone on the Carnival Celebration

The passenger opened her first TikTok with a question:

“How would you feel if you were on a cruise, you came on the cruise alone, and you were in the shower, and as you get out of the shower, you hear people in your stateroom?”

She said this was exactly what had happened to her the previous day aboard the Carnival Celebration. She had returned from the gym, taken off her clothes, and gotten into the shower. Her room steward had already cleaned the cabin that day, so she wasn’t expecting anyone else to come in.

As she was getting out of the shower, she heard noises in the stateroom and began calling out.

“Who’s there? Who is in here?”

Nobody responded, she said. She eventually opened the bathroom door while still trying to find out who was there, and through the mirror she saw two men in the room: one wearing a white shirt and another wearing blue.

“I should be in my room alone. Why are you in my room?”

According to her, one of the men told her he hadn’t known anyone was there and explained that they had entered to change the balcony tables.

“Get out! Why are you here? I’m in the freaking shower!”

She stressed several times that she was traveling alone and had no reason to expect anyone else inside the cabin. Her room steward had already been there, she had not requested maintenance, and she said she received no notice that anyone would enter to replace the balcony furniture.

What upset her even more was what she says happened once she began calling out from the bathroom.

“When I’m yelling through the door, why don’t you acknowledge me? Why do I have to open my door to yell at you and you tell me that, ‘Oh, you’re changing out the table. Get out!’”

She also said the workers did not leave immediately after she confronted them.

“Not only did they not leave immediately, they finished doing whatever they were doing, and then they left.”

She went to Guest Services – and was asked about the sign on her door

Still upset, she went to Guest Services to complain and said she was asked whether she had put a sign on the door.

Her reaction was immediate.

“I shouldn’t need my sign on the door! I’m here by myself! My room steward had already come and gone. There’s no one that’s expected to come in my room.”

She compared it with balcony cleaning Carnival had scheduled earlier in the cruise. On that occasion, she said, a notice had been left so she knew in advance that the balcony would be cleaned the following day. This time, according to her account, no notice had been given even though changing the tables was planned work.

“No one ever said that they were coming into my room in order to perform routine maintenance of changing out a freaking table on the balcony.”

Guest Services, she said, told her the employees had knocked and announced themselves before entering, but nobody had answered.

“How the fuck am I supposed to respond if I’m in the shower?”

While heading to Guest Services, she said she saw multiple tables lined up, which made her believe the replacements were part of scheduled work involving more than one cabin.

“Which means that this was something that was planned. Which means that you all had time to notify people that you planned on coming into their room.”

The anxiety didn’t end when the workers left

The experience affected far more than those few minutes in the cabin. She said her anxiety remained so high afterward that she couldn’t do anything she had planned for the rest of the day.

“My anxiety was so high yesterday, just the idea of being around people just freaked me out.”

She continued:

“I did not get a chance to do anything I planned on doing yesterday because my anxiety was so high; I could not calm my mind.”

She also explained that people working on the ship could not know a passenger’s personal history or what an unexpected situation like this might trigger. In later videos, she spoke about previous traumatic experiences in her own life and said they contributed to the intensity of her reaction.

By the time she recorded the first video, she said her main goal was to get safely back to the United States and continue escalating the complaint afterward.

That video went on to receive about 259,700 views and more than 1,600 comments.

Many viewers kept coming back to what happened after the workers entered

Many comments focused less on the initial knock and more on the passenger’s claim that nobody responded when she called out and that the workers didn’t leave immediately.

“Most importantly why did they not answer when you called out???”

Some viewers accepted that employees may need to enter cabins for maintenance, but felt the bigger problem was what allegedly happened once the passenger made it clear that she was inside.

“They have a right to enter for maintenance, they knocked no reply they entered…where they fumbled was not answering when she called out and not leaving right away.”

“It is unacceptable cause once they opened the door they had to hear the shower running and then turned right back out.”

“When they were asked to leave, they should have left immediately. Period with an apology.”

The fact that the work involved replacing a balcony table also came up repeatedly.

“OK, I can see if it’s an emergency. But just to change out the balcony table really. And then when she called out to them, they didn’t say oh sorry what we’re here for and then just leave.”

The Do Not Disturb sign became another debate

Some viewers thought the passenger should have put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door whenever she was inside the cabin.

“I always put my do not disturb sign out when I’m in the room.”

Others advised using both the sign and the additional door lock whenever possible.

“Use the double lock that lets them know someone is in the room. Always place your do not disturb sign outside your door.”

One person agreed that the employees had handled the situation badly but still questioned her decision not to use the sign.

“I agree the employees did not act professionally by not responding and ignoring your request to have them leave immediately, but what do you mean you shouldn’t have to put the sign in the door?”

Other viewers strongly disagreed with that reasoning.

“So is Carnival saying that their employees can burst into your room any time if the privacy sign isn’t posted??? That’s insane.”

“The fact that you called out multiple times, and your bathroom door closed, with clothes laid out? That wasn’t enough?”

The passenger addressed that argument directly in her next video.

In her follow-up, she explained why she didn’t believe the sign changed what happened

She first reassured viewers that she was safe, then revealed she wasn’t a first-time Carnival passenger. This was her seventh Carnival cruise since July 2025, she said, and before this trip she had already booked three more Carnival cruises – one for New Year’s, another for April and another for May.

She said she planned to cancel all three.

“I will not travel with Carnival any longer.”

She also went into more detail about her routine with the cabin attendant. On embarkation day, she said, he had told her that the room would be cleaned once a day and that service generally began early in the morning. She used the sign at night because she did not want anyone knocking that early, then removed it when she left the cabin.

From Tuesday through Friday, she said, her room was cleaned while she was at the gym, so when she returned, she considered the expected cabin service finished for the day.

“There was no reason for anyone to enter the room. Once per day is what they stated.”

She rejected the argument that failing to leave the sign on the door made her responsible for what happened.

“I could have had my sign on the door, but there is no obligation for me to have a sign on the door. There is a reasonable expectation for me to assume that I am safe, that I’m going to have privacy in the room.”

She also said she read Carnival’s cruise contract twice after the incident because she wanted to understand what it said about cabin entry. According to her reading, Carnival could enter in certain circumstances, including some involving compliance with the contract or maintenance requested by the passenger, but she said she could find nothing specifically addressing unannounced entry for planned routine work of this type.

Her larger question remained the same. Carnival routinely places letters, invitations and other notices inside cabins or on passengers’ doors, she said, so why hadn’t passengers been told that workers would be coming inside to replace balcony tables?

She had also read a comment from someone on Deck 16 who reportedly saw tables lined up there, while she had been staying on Deck 17.

“Which means that this is something that you planned deck-wide on multiple decks, but yet you failed to notify your guest that there was going to be someone entering their room.”

By this point, her frustration had shifted from the two workers to the procedure that allowed the situation to happen.

Several people said they had experienced unexpected cabin entries too

Among the comments were accounts from other cruise passengers who said staff had entered while they were inside. These are personal accounts posted beneath the video and have not been independently verified, but several people described very similar situations.

“This literally happened to me on Carnival Legend. I was in my room by myself asleep and woke up to a man in a blue jacket, who was the floor supervisor in my room!”

Another person described two separate incidents during an eight-day Carnival cruise.

“First time they knocked and immediately walked in without waiting or pausing for a response… me and my husband were taking a nap.”

The same person said someone entered again on another day, this time without knocking.

A Royal Princess passenger said she had been changing when her steward came inside and claimed something similar happened twice during the trip.

“I’m half naked he didn’t this not once but twice the trip!”

A woman who had taken multiple cruises alone described the lengths she went to to feel more secure.

“When I traveled on 10 cruises alone I used to put my huge luggage on the floor by the door to block it so it couldnt be opened.”

There were plenty of shorter reactions too.

“I would’ve been livid too!”

“I’m so sorry. That’s unacceptable.”

“Oh I would be getting a refund on my Whole cruise.”

Many commenters told her to speak to an attorney, while others argued that the circumstances described did not necessarily mean she had broken the law.

Then came another update from the passenger – this time including parts of a phone conversation with Carnival.

Carnival’s Office of the President contacted her

In her third update, the passenger played portions of a recorded call with a woman who said she was calling from Carnival Cruise Line’s Office of the President.

The representative said Carnival had investigated the incident, pulled records, spoken with the two crew members and the chief security officer, and reviewed video. According to Carnival’s investigation, the two workers had knocked on the cabin door and received no response before entering to replace the tables. The passenger had been inside but had not heard them knocking while she was showering.

The Carnival representative acknowledged that what happened should have been handled differently.

“We definitely take accountability here.”

She continued:

“It should have been handled in a different way. I 100% agree with you.”

According to the representative, the matter had already been addressed with the two crew members and they had received additional training.

The passenger, however, wanted to know why she had never been alerted that anyone would be entering the room in the first place.

Carnival explained why passengers aren’t normally warned about this type of work

During the same conversation, the Carnival representative explained that advance notification was not normally given for this type of table replacement because it was considered a quick change intended to take place when guests were not in their cabins.

“It’s just unfortunately not something that is done.”

The passenger immediately interrupted:

“But I was in my cabin.”

The representative acknowledged that she had been.

For the passenger, hearing that the lack of advance notification was normal procedure changed the issue again. Training the two employees involved did not address what she saw as the reason the situation had been possible in the first place.

“You all should absolutely notify people regardless of how quick something is going to happen!”

She continued:

“You just said ‘We don’t notify because it’s a quick change,’ which tells me that you’re not changing your procedure.”

She later explained that she had asked Carnival to preserve records relating to the entry into her room, communications connected with the table replacements, the length of time the workers were inside and information about why they did not respond when she called out from the bathroom.

By then, she said she had already canceled one of her upcoming Carnival bookings.

Her concern remained focused on the procedure.

“Why not create an entire policy change? Why not create a policy that you will notify people if you plan on coming into their room?”

She said she understood why Carnival had chosen to train the two employees, but believed that alone was not enough.

“I understand the importance of training, but I also understand when it’s not necessarily training that’s needed, but it’s actually a procedural change that’s needed, and that’s exactly what’s needed in this instance.”

For anyone planning their first cruise, or someone who has taken many of them, the videos raise a question that likely matters more than who won the argument online: when a cruise line schedules non-emergency work that requires employees to enter passenger cabins, should guests know about it beforehand?
