BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX – Austin Stallman was on a 9-mile run with a Texas A&M training program for people who may want to become Navy SEALs, when his body began to shut down in a way you may not have heard of. That run was on September 15, according to WTAW radio in College Station, when Stallman, the 21-year-old son of Brazoria County Sheriff Bo Stallman, developed heatstroke and was hospitalized. That developed into rhabdomyolysis, a rare but life-threatening condition that can be triggered by intense exercise. RELATED: Brazoria County Sheriff’s son developed heatstroke during training What exactly is rhabdomyolysis? According to the Cleveland Clinic, rhabdomyolysis occurs when your muscle tissue breaks down and releases toxic proteins directly into the bloodstream and kidneys. Normally, your kidneys filter those toxins out of your blood. But when muscles break down too quickly, the kidneys can become overwhelmed, leading to kidney damage or failure. The condition is most commonly triggered by excessive exercise without adequate rest or adequate hydration. A community in mourning The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Stallman suffered heatstroke during that training run. A GoFundMe page set up to help the family with medical bills confirmed the rhabdomyolysis diagnosis. Manvel Mayor Dan Davis expressed his grief on social media after learning of Stallman’s passing. “I know so many people across our community have been praying for Austin and his family,” Davis wrote. “The Stallman family has done so much for Brazoria County, and my heart breaks for them as they face this unimaginable loss.” The Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office asked the community for continued prayers and support for the Stallman family. “The immense outpouring of love, support, and encouragement the Stallmans have received from you all during this incredibly difficult time has not gone unnoticed. In fact, it’s what has kept our Department and the Stallmans strong. We cannot thank you enough and we will never forget.” Breaking News Alerts More Stories Like This In Our Email Newsletter Copyright 2026 by KPRC Click2Houston – All rights reserved.
